Last month, I recommended my blog readers emulate a company called Souplantation and Sweet Tomatoes for promoting their corporate message to their customers (click here to read my post if you missed it). This month, I share with you an example of how ‘NOT’ to communicate with your customers.

Souplantation and Sweet Tomatoes Knows Promotion
I enjoy visiting new and different restaurants when the opportunity presents itself. If you friend me on Facebook by clicking here, you can compete with others by guessing ‘What’s for Dinner?’.
Today, I stopped to enjoy a Tucson, Arizona restaurant called Souplantations and Sweet Tomatoes. What I really liked about this restaurant besides the food (which was great) was how they integrated their message into the surroundings of your table.

Does An Entrepreneur Need An M.B.A.?
When evaluating entrepreneurs for potential investments, Rick Burnes, founder of the VC firm Charles River Ventures, shared in the book The VC Way “it helps to look at the educational level a person has attained and the institutions he or she attended. It takes some determination to get through a demanding university.”
I began researching MBA programs shortly after completing my bachelors a little over 10 years ago. I knew I wanted to attend a demanding program if I got the opportunity because of the opinions held by many investors like Burnes. These opinions weren’t new to me because while raising capital for a previous start-up, I had been told by several investors that my lack of an MBA was a negative.

Evangelizing for the Lean Startup
I recently listened to a great podcast on “Lean Startups.” I shared this podcast with my business partners, programmers and project managers because it validated my “evangelizing” for faster leaner technology projects. The podcast featuring “Lean Startups” speaks directly to how I, myself, manage technology projects from a small database driven Intranet to building a fully customized CRM system.

Jeff Bezos on Regret Minimization
I often share with friends and coworkers that Jeff Bezo’s “Regret Minimization Framework” had a great influence on my life and how I make important decisions. After several years of looking, I was able to locate the actual video I watched that had such an influence on my life.
In the video, Jeff Bezos describes going to his boss and saying “you know, I’m going to go do this crazy thing. I’m going to start this company selling books online.” Bezos went on to eventually quit that job to start Amazon.com.
Enjoy the video below of Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon.com, describing his “Regret Minimization Framework.”

Transitioning from Explorer to Exploiter
Recently, I studied the company Edward Jones Investments and I have come to appreciate the success of Edward Jones’s business model. Plain English from Warren Buffett
I enjoy reading and hearing comments from Warren Buffet, CEO of Berkshire Hathaway. I find his business insight educational and candid.
During our MBA studies, we have studied how to attempt to comprehend the often complex financial statements published by companies. The financial statements include the balance sheet, income statement and cash flow along with the company’s comments, referred to as footnotes. As I have learned, these statements are often difficult even to the trained financial professional to understand.
